50 Seasons. One Moment at Centre Ice.
Before the puck dropped Friday night, we had the opportunity to recognize four people who each represent an important part of the Penetang Kings story.
Peter Dubeau was one of the men instrumental in establishing the Penetang Kings and served as manager of that inaugural Junior C team. Fifty seasons later, having Peter back at centre ice to help officially open this milestone season was a fitting connection to where it all began.
Larry Cowan was a member of the original Penetang Kings roster. Larry played in the very first Junior C game in franchise history — and holds the distinction of scoring in that game. Five decades later, he returned to The Castle representing that first generation of players who put on a Kings uniform.
Liz Bagnell represents the countless hours of work that happen beyond the ice. Her years of dedication and service to the Penetang Kings have helped carry this organization forward.
Carter Wilson represented a much more recent chapter of Kings history. A hometown King, our 2025–26 captain and known to many around The Castle as “Mr. Game 7,” Carter returned to centre ice Friday night in a new role as a proud Penetang Kings alumni.
Together, Peter, Larry, Liz and Carter took part in the ceremonial puck drop to officially begin the 50th season of Penetang Kings hockey.
Taking the faceoff for the Kings was Carson Thayer, now in his fifth season wearing purple, opposite Aiden MacDonald, another Kings alumni returning to The Castle as a member of the Muskoka Bears.
Then it was time for the 2026–27 Kings to take it from there.
With our 50th season uniforms revealed, the Kings opened season 50 with a 6–1 win over the Muskoka Bears.
And just like that, season 50 was underway.

Tonight’s Compu-SOLVE Player of the Game is Blake Weicker.
Weicker had a strong night on the blue line, making smart decisions with the puck and helping drive play from the back end. He was reliable, effective and consistently involved in creating opportunities for the Kings.

As part of our 50th season celebrations, generations of Penetang Kings are coming back together in The Castle today.
The Alumni Game gets underway at 3:30 PM, bringing former Kings back onto the ice for an afternoon celebrating 50 seasons of Kings hockey.
Admission is $5, with all proceeds donated to the Dylan Gervais Youth Athletics Fund.

Tonight’s Compu-SOLVE Player of the Game is Brycen Kingma.
Kingma put together a strong effort on the back end, using his skating ability and vision to move the puck effectively and help create offence from the blue line. He finished the night with 2 assists.

GAME DAY IN THE CASTLE.
Tonight, we officially open the Penetang Kings 50th Season.
Before the puck drops against the Muskoka Bears, Kings history will be represented at centre ice.

Joining them are Kings Board President and soon-to-be Penetang Sports Hall of Fame inductee Liz Bagnell and 2025–2026 Captain and now Kings alumni Carter Wilson.
From the Kings earliest days to today, it’s a moment that brings 50 seasons of history together at centre ice.
Then, it’s time for the 2026–2027 Penetang Kings to take it from there.

Saturday, September 12 will bring generations of Penetang Kings together as we continue the celebration of our 50th season.
The afternoon begins at 3:30 PM with two back-to-back Alumni Games, bringing former Kings back to The Castle and onto the ice once again. Admission is $5, with all proceeds donated to the Dylan Gervais Youth Athletics Fund.
Following the games, Kings alumni are invited to join us in the Community Hall at 6:00 PM as we celebrate 50 seasons of players, coaches, volunteers and the people who have helped shape this hockey club over the years.
Then at 8:00 PM, the current Kings take the ice against the Huntsville Otters to close out a full day of Kings hockey.
